Alfred Vogel was a renowned nutritionist, herbalist and naturopath. He is considered by many to be the paramount figure in the field of natural medicine and devoted his life to the philosophy of living in "Harmony with Nature". Alfred Vogel firmly believed that everything we need to protect and preserve our health has been given to us by nature. During his childhood, Alfred Vogel learned about the therapeutic value of plants from his parents. In 1933 he established a naturopathic practice in the beautiful Swiss mountain village of Teufen, where he cultivated his own medicinal herbs. Through his work, Alfred Vogel quickly found that herbal preparations made from fresh plant material were more beneficial to his patients than those prepared using dried herbs. At Teufen, he developed this theory further, producing herbal tinctures from fresh plants cultivated in his herb garden or collected from the surrounding mountains. The herb garden at Teufen is believed still to be flourishing, converted into a "Show Garden" and the centrepiece of the Vogel Museum and Visitor Centre.
